El Banco de Canadá reduce las tasas en 50 pb a 0.25%. Se esperaba ampliamente una reducción de la tasa al 0.25% en la fecha de anuncio del 15 de abril o antes. El gobernador Poloz anunció: «Esta decisión de tasa no programada lleva la tasa de política a su límite inferior efectivo y está destinada a proporcionar apoyo al sistema financiero canadiense y la economía durante la pandemia COVID-19». El Banco lanzó dos nuevos programas:
1. Programa de compra de papel comercial (CPPP) para ayudar a aliviar las tensiones en los mercados de financiación a corto plazo y, de este modo, preservar una fuente clave de financiación para las empresas.
2. Adquisición de valores del Gobierno (GoC) en el mercado secundario, con compras que comienzan con un mínimo de C $ 5 mil millones por semana en la curva de rendimiento.
El Banco está coordinando con el G7 y las autoridades fiscales y «está listo para tomar más medidas según sea necesario para apoyar la economía y el sistema financiero canadienses y mantener la inflación en el objetivo».
El USDCAD se recuperó a 1.4155, luego de cotizar cerca de 1.4070 y CADJPY continuó rastreando el menor incumplimiento de S2 para negociar a 76.65.
